The tree

Three roads

The fork in the road · around age 17–22

National medallist

Once you are among India's best, three roads open. Many boxers walk two of them at once.

🥇 Olympic route

Amateur boxing (World Boxing and BFI)
  1. Youth and Elite National medals
  2. National camp, then TOPS
  3. Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, then the Worlds
  4. Olympic qualifiers
  5. Olympics. Then Arjuna Award, a job and coaching

💰 Professional route

Paid fights, belts, promoters
  1. Indian Boxing Council licence, age 17–40
  2. 4-round debut, then 6, 8 and 10 rounds
  3. Build an unbeaten record (10–15 wins)
  4. National title, then regional belts (WBC / WBO Asia)
  5. World ranking, then a world title (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO)

🎓 Career route

A secure job through boxing
  • Sports-quota jobs: Army, Navy, Air Force, Railways, police, PSUs
  • Coach: NIS diploma, BPES/MPES
  • Referee and judge
  • Strength & conditioning, sports science
  • Academy owner, content creator
The smart order: win amateur medals first, because they bring the job, the scholarship and the ranking. Most top Indian pros turn pro after an Olympic cycle, usually between ages 22 and 28.

Our plan

Age 15 · U-17 · 75–80 kg

Utkarsh's road

  1. Oct 2026: SGFI National School Games, Imphal. A medal makes him eligible for Shaktidoot (gold 60, silver 40, bronze 30 points).
  2. 2026–27: BFI Junior (U-17) Nationals through the Gujarat boxing association. Khelo India Youth Games trials.
  3. 2027–29: Youth (U-19) Nationals, then the national youth camp and Asian / World Youth Championships.
  4. Olympic target: Brisbane 2032, at about age 21, in the men's 80 kg or 90 kg class. LA28 is closed to him because of the age rule (born 2009 or earlier).
  5. Keep studying: Class 10 and 12 marks matter for sports-quota jobs and college.
Age 19 · Elite · +90 kg

Moksha's road

  1. Now: apply for Shaktidoot. He is eligible today with his Khel Mahakumbh State gold.
  2. 2026–27: Gujarat State Elite Championship, then the BFI Elite Nationals (+90 kg).
  3. University route: All India Inter-University and Khelo India University Games through Parul University.
  4. Olympics: LA28 is age-eligible but very hard to reach (national No. 1 by 2027–28). Brisbane 2032, at about age 25, is a realistic main target.
  5. Back-up built in: BPES degree, then the NIS coaching diploma. His powerlifting strength also suits a later pro heavyweight career.
For every boxer

Golden rules

  • School and boxing together. A degree protects a career.
  • Keep every certificate, result sheet and newspaper cutting.
  • Register with the state association and BFI early. Trials need it.
  • Have a yearly medical check, and an eye check after hard bouts.
  • No crash weight-cutting. Grow into the right weight class.
  • Count bouts and sparring. Rest after a stoppage (RSC) loss.
  • Film every fight. Coaches and selectors watch tape.
  • Apply for every scheme you qualify for: Shaktidoot, Khelo India, PSUs.
